Small Office/Home Office (SOHO)
|
| The SOHO system is generally used to run office
applications such as word processors and spreadsheet programs.
Such programs do not require a powerful PC to run efficiently.
The SOHO system is essentially the same as our Value System.
The difference here would be to opt for reputable brands. |
| |
| Processor - Celeron 600MHZ |
| The Intel Celeron is an excellent processor for
the SOHO System. The Celeron is cheaper than a Pentium of the
same speed but powerful enough to run our SOHO System. |
| |
| Memory - 64MB or more |
| Since the SOHO System will not be used to run
any demanding software, 64MB of memory will be sufficient. Since
the SOHO computer will likely store financial information, it's
important you buy memory of a reputable brand. This will minimise
the chance of data corruption. |
| |
| Motherboard - Reputable brand with integrated
sound and video |
| Audio and video integration significantly reduces
the cost of the SOHO computer. A motherboard with such features
saves you the expense of buying a separate sound and video card.
Since the SOHO system will not be used for games (except when
the boss is gone) integrated sound & video shall do the job
well. |
| |
| Hard drive - capacity: 10GB. Speed: 5400rpm
|
| To keep cost down, a 10GB hard drive shall be
sufficient, but this size hard dive is becoming harder to find.
It seems like the average size is a 20GB hard drive, but if
you can get between 10 - 15GB for less money go for it. 10GB
is still a lot of space for an SOHO machine. |
| |
| Monitor - Size: 15" |
| When buying your monitor make sure the text on
the screen is crystal clear. Blurry screens will certainly give
you a headache and make you feel sick. Always ask for an in-store
demonstration before buying any monitor and judge it for yourself.
Ask to see text on a white background and lookout for unwanted
flickering. |
| |
| CD-ROM - 32X |
| The difference in speed between a 52x and a 32x
CD-ROM may not be noticeable but the price will. To cut cost
opt for a 32x CD-ROM. |
