Value System
|
| Many people don't need as powerful a computer
as they may believe. In fact, if you are only going to surf
the net, do word processing or use your PC as a tool for school,
then you can buy a cheap machine. Why waste money on features
you wouldn't use? You would be surprised at the amount of money
you can save. Remember, computers are upgradeable, so additional
features can be added later when you really need them. |

| Processor - Celeron 600MHZ |
| The Intel Celeron is an excellent processor for
the Value System. The Celeron is cheaper than a Pentium of the
same speed but powerful enough to run our Value System. |
| |
| Memory- 64MB |
| Since the Value System will not be used to run
any demanding software, 64MB of memory will be sufficient. |
| |
| Motherboard - Any with integrated sound and
video |
| Audio and video integration is were the Value
System shines. Buying a motherboard with integrated audio and
video is where you save big bucks. Such a motherboard saves
you the expense of buying a separate sound and video card. |
| |
| Hard drive - capacity: 10GB. Speed: 5400rpm
|
| To keep cost down, a 10GB hard drive shall be
sufficient, but this size hard dive is becoming harder to find.
It seems like the average size is a 20GB hard drive, but if
you can get between 10 - 15GB for less money go for it. 10GB
is still a lot of space for an average person. |
| |
| Monitor - Size: 15" |
| When buying your monitor make sure the text on
the screen is crystal clear. Blurry screens will certainly give
you a headache and make you feel sick. Always ask for an in-store
demonstration before buying any monitor and judge it for yourself.
Ask to see text on a white background and lookout for unwanted
flickering. |
| |
| CD-ROM - 32X |
| The difference in speed between a 52x and a 32x
CD-ROM may not be noticeable but the price will. To cut cost
opt for a 32x CD-ROM. |
