The
Opening Gala heralds the official start of the Crop Over festivities
and got on the way with a motorcade from Government Headquarters
which preceded to Queens Park. Team Barbados took the honours
in leading the motorcade to the 2002 Crop Over Opening Gala.
Team Barbados, comprises of the award winning machines of

medals, including a gold, from the Spring Break Nationals
in Miami, Florida. They were joined by a procession of other
top customised cars, which drew the attention of many onlookers
as they headed through Bridgetown. On arriving at Queens Park,

The Team is currently raising funds to participate
in the upcoming World Championships. Thanks to the collaboration
of The Checkered Flag Car Shop and the Natural Cultural Foundation
(NCF), the NCF granted the Team a vending stall to assist in
raising additional funds for their overseas tour. In addition,
the NCF has also given the Team a stall for Bridgetown Market
and Grand Kadooment, on Spring Garden Highway. The stall is,
believe it or not, NO.1 and will be situated at the entrance
to the Fisheries Department, which is next to the Sound Stage
as well. All car lovers and supporters of Team Barbados are
asked to purchase all their food and drinks from their stall,
during this festive season. |

The
Opening Gala showcased Barbadian culture through a wide range
of attractions, performances and activities. They were multinational
stalls, which offered great tasting foods from countries such
as Cuba, China and the USA. Of course there were many great
Bajan food stalls as well. Stilt walkers, calypsonians, shaggy-bear
acrobats, dancing groups and pony rides are all just a sample
of the many attractions offered at the Gala. Please enjoy the
photos. |
